Las Vegas City Hall • Las Vegas, Nevada • Elkus Manfredi Architects
The 309,000-sq. ft. city hall for Las Vegas, Nevada, is designed to express the values of Las Vegas and also the city's commitment to sustainable energy. The design features a number of sustainable design strategies including a solar panel rooftop, landscape canopies that shade the plaza and act as energy generating photovoltaic "tree", and glass with integrated shading technology to achieve performance standards. Another feature of the design is the LED fins on the front facade of the building and also the LED panels inside the main lobby. The fins on the outside is a metaphor for the Colorado River due to their main nature of use or can be used to display many different scenes in accordance with an event; while the LED panels in the lobby are a constant "waterfall" giving a peaceful, calm, friendly atmosphere to the Las Vegas City Hall.
