George V. Voinovich I-90 Innerbelt Bridge Cleveland, Ohio by HNTB
George V. Voinovich Bridge • US Interstate I-90 Innerbelt Bridge • Cleveland, Ohio • HNTB
Replacing the original, structurally unsound, 1959 Innerbelt “Pratt Deck Truss” with two, nearly identical spans (one for eastbound, one for westbound) that are designed to mimic curves of other bridges in the river valley, utilizing steel – a vital part of Cleveland’s history – while including modern touches like color-changing LED lighting systems. The first bridge, completed in 2013, carries all the traffic until the original bridge is demolished and the Eastbound Bridge is opened (slated for 2016). Along with the completed bridges, the areas around each bridge will be enhanced with public overlooks, green spaces, enhanced biking and walking facilities, additional parking for downtown, public art, community gardens and more.
